A charming and whimsical frog-form basket in tightly woven rattan, painted a soft white and dating to the 1970s, attributed to French designer Olivier Cajan. Originally conceived as a porte-revues, it now functions delightfully as a lightweight wastepaper basket or playful sculptural accent. The rounded body opens at the wide mouth, while the expressive posture gives it an endearing personality. The glass eyes that once crowned the head are now missing. The weave remains clean and uniform with a mellowed paint surface, and condition is good overall, with light fraying, a few small broken reeds along the paws, and a stable, sound structure.
This playful basket reflects the late-20th-century taste for fanciful wicker forms, when coastal and resort interiors embraced painted rattan animals for their charm and versatility. Its soft white finish suits breezy verandas, children’s rooms, home offices, and sunlit corners, bringing a touch of humor and an airy, casual elegance to any setting.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
