Poised 1960s–70s French Four-Light Plexiglass and Brass Chandelier - 20½" x 19¾"

This French four-light chandelier, dating from the 1960s or 1970s, combines clear molded plexiglass with warm brass in an elegant, spare composition. Four slender arms sweep outward from the central body, each formed from deeply ridged transparent elements that curve like stylized leaves or feathers before supporting a candle-style light. The tall central section repeats the same motif, with elongated plexiglass pieces rising vertically around the brass stem. With only four arms and relatively little metalwork, the design remains open and graphic, allowing the transparent material to define the silhouette. The use of clear plexiglass gives the chandelier a distinctly mid-century character, while the design clearly reinterprets earlier Venetian glass lighting. Its ribbed, feather-like forms recall the sculptural glass leaves found in Art Deco chandeliers by makers such as Barovier & Toso, translated here into a lighter, more modern material.

The chandelier has been carefully restored and rewired in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence by a specialist in historic lighting, with particular attention given to safe, high-quality electrification while preserving the original elements.

Its transparent construction gives the chandelier presence without visual weight, while the brass adds just enough warmth. It would make a beautiful focal point in a modern, minimalist dining room. In a more layered interior, the transparent plexiglass allows it to sit gracefully alongside stronger furniture, color and artwork.
