Pretty antique terracotta plate from the Savoy region - 11½"

This pretty plate from the Savoie dates from the late nineteenth to early twentieth century. The hand-painted decoration forms an abstract floral rosette at the center with four matching corner sprigs, executed in warm ochre with pooled green and small manganese-black spots.

Charming on a kitchen wall, it can anchor a grouping of French slipware and faïence on open shelves or a pot rack. On a console or farmhouse table, it works as a decorative catchall or as a dish for fruit, herbs, or candles, its mellow glaze harmonizing with linen, patinated copper, and natural woods.
