Primitive Mid-20th-Century French Wooden Side Table / Plant Stand - 28¼"

This rustic wooden side table likely dates from the mid-20th century and has a particularly bold, primitive construction. The top is cut from a very thick section of timber, retaining its irregular natural outline and clearly visible growth rings, knots and old tool marks. A deep natural split opens through one side of the top, while smaller cracks and surface wear contribute to its rustic character. Below, three simply hewn legs are set at slightly different angles, their irregular surfaces reinforcing the handmade quality of the piece while keeping it stable and solid.

The sheer thickness of the top gives this small table an almost sculptural presence, while the rough surface and irregular shape keep it informal and earthy. It would work especially well as an end table, but its height and solidity also make it a natural pedestal for a ceramic, sculpture or large plant.
