Radiant Expressionist Oil on Canvas of Christ by Robert Falcucci, “Le Christ au Vitrail” - 29½ x 24""

A powerful and deeply expressive oil on canvas by French painter Robert Falcucci (1900–1989), titled Le Christ au Vitrail, as inscribed on the reverse. Rendered in a vivid and highly textured palette, the composition depicts the face of Christ emerging from a radiant field of color, evoking the luminous effect of stained glass through bold impasto and dramatic contrasts of blues, golds, reds, and greens. The halo-like circular form surrounding the figure reinforces the spiritual intensity of the work, while the energetic brushwork gives the painting an almost mystical vibration. 

Though best known today as an illustrator and celebrated poster artist, Falcucci also produced numerous religious works throughout his career. Trained at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, he worked for Renault in the 1920s before gaining recognition for his advertising posters, travel imagery, and luxury illustrations, notably for Paul Poiret and Air France. He was appointed official painter to the French Armed Forces in 1948. He also created monumental decorative projects and gemmail stained-glass compositions for the Basilica of Saint-Pius X in Lourdes in 1985.
