Radiant Vintage French Ceramic Sunburst Mirror, circa 1960 - 24¾"

This vintage French sunburst mirror, dating from around the 1960s, features a small circular mirror framed by molded ceramic rays in a warm caramel-ochre glaze. Alternating pointed rays and raised circular bosses create a strong rhythmic pattern around the central mirror, while incised detailing and slight variations in the glaze give the piece a handcrafted character. The reverse shows the ceramic elements mounted around a circular fibreboard backing with a metal hanging fitting. It is in good vintage condition, with light wear and small glaze losses at some high points consistent with age.

Sunburst mirrors became a celebrated feature of French interiors in the 1950s and 1960s, and this ceramic example has all the appeal that made the form so enduring: a bold radiating silhouette, warm color and a strong sense of craftsmanship. Although unmarked, it sits comfortably within the broader postwar ceramic tradition associated with Vallauris. The rich caramel glaze gives it a warm, sun-baked quality, making it an inviting focal point above a console or fireplace.
