Rare large antique Italian horse head wall sculpture - terracotta 16½"

Likely once used as a sign for horse stables or a chevaline boucherie, this rare antique terracotta horse head sculpture is Italian-made and dates from the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. The exterior finish is a lovely dusted alabaster-color wash. A special piece for equine enthusiasts, today this lifelike sculpture can happily be used as garden décor or placed inside situated on a stack of books as table décor.

Note the hole on the back indicating where the sign was once fixed to a wall. In great condition for its age, note the slight traces of exposed terracotta on the base as seen in photos.
