Rare Louis Vuitton Art Deco Cast-Iron Pedestal Table with Later Stone Top, France, c. 1930s - 27½" x 23¾"

A rare French Art Deco pedestal table dating from the 1930s, with a cast-iron base stamped LV for Louis Vuitton. The base is especially handsome, with a tall faceted stem rising in successive tiers from a broad, splayed base, each foot modeled with stepped angular relief, geometric detailing, and stylized floral motifs characteristic of the period. Its original painted surface has weathered beautifully: layers of pale gray, cream, dark metal, and traces of oxidation have emerged through years of wear, emphasizing the architecture of the casting and giving the base a richly varied patina. The circular stone top is a later addition, chosen in a pale neutral tone; rather than being highly polished, it has a softly textured, matte surface that complements the aged metal particularly well. The stone is in very good condition overall, with a beautifully preserved matte surface and only a small knock to the edge.

The base is the real draw, with a refined Art Deco design and a superbly layered patina that brings depth and character to its strong geometric form. It is stamped LV, a rare and evocative detail that speaks to Louis Vuitton’s lesser-known interwar forays into luxury furniture and interior design. The later pale stone top is deliberately quiet by contrast, with a matte, softly textured, almost chalky surface that allows the base to take center stage.

Compact in scale but architecturally assured, the table has the kind of understated Parisian chic that gives a room immediate character, whether beside a sofa, between two lounge chairs, or set for drinks on a covered terrace.
