A rare and highly decorative pair of carved oak architectural panels, dating from the 17th century or earlier. Each is crowned by a huntsman in period dress, one carrying a game bird and the other a hare, with hunting horns hanging across their chests. Beneath, the panels are richly carved with scrolling foliage, fruiting branches, and stylised leaves in deep relief. Their dark, mellow patina and centuries of wear lend the pair an exceptional sense of age, history, and decorative presence.
Unusual and full of character, these panels were likely once part of a larger decorative scheme, perhaps incorporated into panelling, furniture, or an architectural interior. Their survival as a matching pair is particularly appealing. Displayed flanking a doorway, fireplace, or mirror, they create a dramatic focal point and evoke the atmosphere of a historic hunting lodge or country house. Particularly suited to a dining room,
Condition and patina consistent with age.
