Rectangular Provençal Terracotta Platter w/ Green Glaze 14½" x 8¼"

"It's special, unique and very Provençal — it's great for watermelon. Make it colorful!" Patricia exclaims of this handsome rectangular terracotta platter, one of a pair she and Walter collected locally during their years at Chanteduc, their farmhouse and cooking school in Vaison-la-Romaine.

Made by a local artisan, the platter is covered in a rich pea-green glaze that shifts subtly across the surface — deeper at the centre, brighter at the raised border. Running around the wide, angled rim is a repeating stamped motif — small, stylised floral or cross-like impressions worked into the clay before glazing — giving the border a rhythmic, decorative character.

It pairs beautifully with a very similar second platter available separately, and the two together would make a striking arrangement on a summer table, a kitchen dresser or a garden lunch spread. This is the kind of piece that looks as good holding a wedge of melon as it does sitting on a shelf.
