Refined Antique Gilt-Brass Five-Light Chandelier- 33" x 21¼"

This elegant five-light chandelier, dating from the early 20th century, combines a tall molded-glass central stem with scrolling gilt-brass arms and an abundant arrangement of clear glass pendants. The stem is built from a succession of gadrooned baluster forms, while two further tiers of hanging glass above the main arms draw the eye upward and give the chandelier a graceful vertical emphasis. The five candle-style lights extend outward on curving arms, each set above finely modeled floral and foliate bobeches and candle cups, with white opaline-glass candle sleeves. Faceted pear-shaped pendants are suspended throughout the composition, attached with delicate glass rosettes, while a pinecone-form finial and round glass ball pendant provide a final point of sparkle below.

The chandelier has been carefully restored and rewired in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence by a passionate specialist in historic lighting working closely with Mathieu Lustrerie, the renowned Provençal atelier specializing in the restoration and creation of fine lighting. Particular attention has been given to the quality and safety of the electrification while preserving the character of the original elements. The candle lights are fitted with high-quality dimmable flame-effect bulbs.

Its generous width and five-light arrangement give the chandelier enough presence and illumination for a large dining table, while keeping the overall effect light and graceful. It would be particularly appealing above a long farmhouse or refectory table, where the gilt metal and clear glass can bring a more refined French note without making the setting feel formal.
