SKU: 17386

US$2,356

A stunning oil-on-canvas painting entitled "Return from the harvest" by Flemish artist Frans Backvis (1857-1926). This lovely painting depicts four horses pulling a carriage overflowing with hay, three harvest workers in the foreground, and a dog in the left corner. The sky is blue with lovely billowing clouds providing a bit of shade for the workers in the fields below. Signed in the lower right corner.

A wonderful piece showing a window into farm life in the late nineteenth century with masterful brushstrokes. Note the beveled gilt and black frame shows some losses on the outer black frame.
