A plateau tournant — a revolving cake stand — from Patricia and Walter's collection at Chanteduc, their farmhouse and cooking school in Vaison-la-Romaine, made for presenting petit fours: those small, precise confections that are as pretty as they are delicious.
The stand is a study in considered design. A smooth white ceramic platform sits atop a turned metal pedestal in aged silver, its surface catching the light with a soft, worn lustre. Rising from the centre is a graceful T-shaped handle in the same silvered metal, its curved crossbar designed for lifting and turning and lifiting the tray with ease.
The rotating platform means guests can help themselves without reaching, and the elevated presentation gives even the simplest madeleine or chocolate truffle a moment of occasion. At Chanteduc, where Patricia's cooking classes celebrated the pleasures of the Provençal table, a stand like this would have been entirely at home at the end of a long lunch, circling slowly with a cargo of small sweet things. Today it works just as well as a kitchen centrepiece — for fruit, for cheese, for anything worth showing off — or as a display stand that brings a little of that unhurried, generous table spirit into a contemporary home.
