This round Herbier model coffee table by Roger Capron, crafted in Vallauris, France, dates from the 1960s to early 1970s. Its circular top is composed of radiating panels of warm ochre stoneware tiles impressed with real leaves and fronds, whose natural forms were pressed into the clay before firing to create delicate botanical reliefs. These fossil-like impressions are arranged in a sunburst pattern around a central medallion, each tile bearing subtle variations unique to the process. The heavy top rests within a dark-stained wooden frame supported by square-section legs, balancing organic texture with geometric structure. Signed Capron on the surface, the table shows minor surface marks on the top along with gentle scuffing and rubbing to the wood.

Capron, a leading mid-century céramiste of Vallauris, developed the Herbier series by pressing real foliage into damp clay to capture natural veining before glazing and firing, an approach that united modern design with artisanal savoir-faire. His workshop, active from the 1950s onward, supplied tile-topped furniture to Riviera interiors and international boutiques, admired for its durability and tactile, earthy palette.
