A substantial late 19th-century Louis XV Revival painted overmantel mirror, with a beaded inner border and an ornate, floral-molded frame, surmounted by a bold rocaille crest that lends depth and movement.
The surface presents a soft, chalky painted finish in pale white tones, a later overpaint concealing an earlier gilt ground. The original glass shows light speckled foxing, with a more pronounced area of desilvering near the top. There are minor chips, scattered gesso losses, and gentle wear to the lower corner ornaments, all consistent with age and enhancing the piece’s character, reflecting its passage through time.
Generous in scale yet balanced in proportion, it is well suited above a fireplace or console, where it will reflect light and add texture with quiet elegance.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
