A generous late 19th-century Rococo Revival mirror with an arched silhouette and exuberant cresting, finely carved in wood and gesso with scrolling acanthus, shells, and delicate floral sprays. A beaded inner molding frames the shaped mirror plate, enhancing its movement and ornament. The frame has been later repatinated in a soft ivory tone and selectively regilded in bright gold leaf, which gently highlights the decorative relief and lends the piece a luminous, romantic presence. The mirror plate retains scattered foxing consistent with age, yet remains clear, revealing its history without compromising reflection. The crest has been repaired and remains slightly delicate and the frame sustains minor, unobtrusive losses consistent with age, which blend gracefully into the overall patina.
Romantic and feminine in spirit, this mirror is particularly suited to a bedroom or dressing room, where its ivory and gold palette creates a light, graceful atmosphere. It reflects chandelier light with a soft glow and brings depth above a mantel, vanity, or marble-topped chest. The ornate scrollwork and gentle patina introduce warmth and poetry to both traditional and more contemporary interiors, offering a decorative flourish that feels refined rather than overwhelming. Leaned casually or hung to crown a fireplace, it adds charm, elegance, and a timeless touch of romance.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.
