"I loved all of those pots — I used them for all sorts of things, and even for cooking — even in the wood-fired bread oven, stews and things like that. I love the colors," explains Patricia.
The pot almost certainly comes from Dieulefit, a small town in the Drôme department of the southern Rhône Valley with an unbroken pottery tradition stretching back to the sixteenth century. Working with exceptionally fine local clay, Dieulefit's potters produced functional domestic wares — storage jars, cooking vessels, pitchers — that supplied households across Provence and beyond. The tradition survived industrialization largely intact, and the village remains a working center of craft pottery today.
It works just as naturally today on a kitchen shelf, a garden table, or planted with herbs.
