Round Vintage French Wicker Bread Basket w/ Overarching Handle

From the Paris apartment of Patricia and Walter Wells, this generously proportioned rattan bread basket was a regular fixture at their table, set out each morning for sliced baguette and toast. Round and open, it is woven in warm honey-toned rattan with a tightly coiled arched handle rising above airy, latticed sides. The base is worked in a close herringbone weave that fans outward from a central cross-point, transitioning into a looser open lattice toward the rim, which is neatly finished. It would be equally at home on a farmhouse table, kitchen counter or sideboard, holding bread, fruit, napkins or market finds.
