This late 18th- to early 19th-century folk art chest originates from the Queyras region in southeastern France, crafted from richly grained Swiss pine, or pin cembro. It is adorned with compass stars, concentric circles, and knife-cut fluting, all hand-carved with simple tools in a style that speaks to the rustic ingenuity of mountain craftsmanship.
