This French earthenware ewer by Foucard-Jourdan of Vallauris, probably dating from the 1950s, has a wonderfully sculptural silhouette. Its generous rounded body rises to a tall, tapering neck topped by a small cup-shaped opening, balanced by a long curved handle and a raised pouring spout. The beautiful glossy glaze varies from golden honey to warm amber, with darker patches around the shoulders adding depth and character. A fine network of crazing runs through the glaze, and there are a few small losses consistent with age and use. The base bears the Foucard-Jourdan Vallauris maker's stamp.
Its warm Mediterranean colors and bold design give this ewer a strong decorative presence. It would look beautiful on a country kitchen shelf or rustic sideboard, alongside old wooden objects and other glazed pottery. A few dried branches or stems could also work nicely in the narrow opening, although the piece has plenty of appeal on its own.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
