This tall iron birdcage features a graceful, tapered silhouette with a flared shoulder and a conical roof crowned by a small galvanized cap. Slender vertical rods rise elegantly toward the peak, while bands of looping scrollwork encircle the rim and base, lending the piece a rhythmic, architectural quality. Traces of old white paint remain scattered across the surface, layered over richly oxidized iron and creating a nuanced, time-softened palette.
Likely French and dating to the early 20th century, the cage reflects the tradition of ornamental wirework made for gardens, winter gardens, and light-filled verandas. The surface bears the hallmarks of long outdoor life—paint loss, gentle corrosion, and irregular wear that together contribute to its sculptural presence and authentic charm. The small door remains intact, and the cage is best appreciated today as a decorative object rather than for housing live birds.
Used as a garden ornament, lantern form, or dramatic interior accent, it brings height, texture, and a romantic, weathered note to both indoor and outdoor settings. Its aged patina pairs beautifully with stone, terracotta, and greenery, offering a sense of history and quiet poetry wherever it is placed.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
