A substantial French studio pottery platter in stoneware, likely dating to the 1960s or 1970s. Hand-formed with a square silhouette, the piece features a broad fluted rim punctuated by rounded corner bosses framing a recessed central well. The glossy glaze ranges from deep charcoal and tobacco brown to olive tones, richly variegated with speckling and subtle pooling in the well. An unidentified maker's signature is present to the underside. Very good condition with minor wear consistent with age and firing.
Created during the flourishing of French studio ceramics in the postwar period, the platter combines functional design with a distinctly sculptural sensibility. The architectural form, fluted border, and nuanced glaze reflect the period's appreciation for handmade objects that balanced sculptural presence with organic simplicity.
Whether displayed empty or used as a centerpiece with candles, it brings depth, texture, and a quietly Brutalist character to an interior. Its earthy palette pairs effortlessly with wood, stone, and natural materials, making it equally at home in rustic, mid-century, or contemporary settings.

Light wear.
