A vintage French metal dish strainer from the students’ kitchen at Chanteduc, this practical égouttoir (dish drainer) comes directly from Patricia Wells’ personal collection. Chosen for daily service in her classes, where intelligent simplicity and mise en place set the rhythm, it reflects the unpretentious rigor of her kitchens in Provence. As Patricia explains, “It has a wonderful shape and it's a nice dish rack that you can keep on the counter,” a remark that speaks to its balance of grace and utility.
Formed in sturdy metal wire, it rests on four curled feet with scrolling sides that give an airy profile and excellent airflow as dishes dry. The dark, time-softened patina records years of honest use, yet the rack remains strong, stable and easy to lift. Broad and low, it feels generous without crowding a counter, moving easily as the kitchen shifts from prep to service. At the sink it keeps plates and bowls tidy; elsewhere it can cradle linens, market finds, or fruit and herbs from the garden.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
