Serene Mediterranean Landscape, Oil on Panel by Maurice Miniot, Signed and Dated 1935 - 24¾" x 28¾"

A serene oil on panel by French artist Maurice Miniot (1884–1945), signed and dated 1935 at the lower right, depicting a sun-drenched view of the countryside near Ávila in central Spain. Framed by slender trees in the foreground, the composition draws the eye towards a village church tower rising above terracotta rooftops, with gently rolling hills fading into the distance beneath a pale blue-grey sky. Painted in a delicate palette of warm ochres, pale celadon, olive green, and soft earth tones, the work beautifully captures the hazy light and tranquil atmosphere so characteristic of southern European landscapes. A handwritten inscription on the reverse identifies the subject as La campagne d’Ávila (Countryside near Avila) and also references Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle, adding valuable context to the work. Presented in its original green-painted and giltwood frame, the painting is in very good condition. The frame has developed a pleasing timeworn patina, with light rubbing and a few minor nicks to the edges. 

Painted in the French plein air tradition, the work favours broad, confident brushstrokes and a restrained palette over meticulous detail, allowing light and atmosphere to take centre stage. The distant church tower provides a quiet focal point, while the expansive landscape evokes the unhurried rhythm of village life.
