A set of five vintage French glass preserving jars from the kitchen at Chanteduc, Patricia and Walter Wells's farmhouse in Vaison-la-Romaine — gathered one by one at Provençal brocantes over the years.
Though collected separately, the five sit together with an easy coherence: clear and pale glass, each slightly different in form.
Preserving has always been central to Patricia's Provençal kitchen, and her cookbooks include recipes for the jams, jellies and conserves these jars were made to hold. Gathered from brocantes across the region, they carry the patina of use and time. Today they work beautifully as a grouped display on a kitchen shelf or windowsill, as votive holders, or — true to their origins — filled with homemade preserves and tied with a square of linen.
