Set of 8 French Wrought Iron Garden Chairs w/ 2 Stools

For decades, this exceptional set of ten wrought-iron garden pieces, comprising eight chairs and two stools, has been used on the curved western terrace at Chanteduc, Patricia and Walter Wells’s farmhouse and cooking school near Vaison-la-Romaine, overlooking rolling, forested hills. The chairs are built in the curule tradition, their X-shaped bases sweeping in confident arcs that end in tight scroll feet. The slatted seats curve gently to follow the body, and the tall backs are fitted with evenly spaced vertical bars capped by outward-scrolling finials. Across the surface, the iron has developed a warm, russet-toned patina — the natural result of years of sun, mistral and Mediterranean seasons. They would anchor a walled town garden, a generous courtyard or a country terrace with equal ease.
