Set of Bespoke 10 Ceramic French Cheese Labels - Hand Lettered

A set of ten artisan-made faience cheese labels from Chanteduc, Patricia Wells’s Provençal home, each a petite creamy white plaque hand lettered in deep green and mounted on a slender metal pick. From her personal collection, this vintage ensemble comes with Patricia’s smile: “There was a woman in a little village near Coustellet who made these cheese labels. After I bought this set I brought her a long extra list to make and she said, ‘No, it is too much work.’ So this is all I have. Aren’t they cute?” The script names a tour of French cheeses, including Brie, Camembert, Banon, Bleu, Saint Marcellin, and Brebis Basque, a nod to the markets and artisans that shape her cooking and teaching. These cheese labels are featured on p.243 of The Provence Cookbook and p.197 of The French Kitchen Cookbook, by Patricia Wells. The tin-glazed earthenware (faience) has a gentle sheen and touchable smoothness, the lettering clean and legible, each plaque charmingly individual. Their petite scale feels made for real entertaining. Displayed directly in cheese, they help guests identify cheeses and note favorites for the next visit to the fromagère (cheesemonger).
