A charming set of eight mid-century French glass candy jars, each topped with a flat glass lid fitted with a knob finial. The cylindrical bodies display the gentle ripples characteristic of old soda glass, designed to showcase their contents while catching the light attractively on a shop counter. Each jar retains its original polychrome paper label, beautifully illustrated with abundant fruit evoking the sweet, fruit-flavoured candies once stored inside. At the centre of each label appears a proud coq gaulois, a traditional symbol of French craftsmanship and national identity. The labels remain in very good condition, with fresh, lively colours and only minor signs of age.
Printed in French with the slogan "toujours bon" (“always good”), a reference to the quality of the sweets once contained within, the labels also bear a two-digit telephone number for the manufacturer. This reflects an earlier telecommunications system based on short, manually connected local numbers, helping to situate the jars in the early to mid-20th century.
These jars recall the inviting counters of traditional sweet shops, where confections were displayed in clear glass for all to admire. Ideal for open kitchen shelving or a pantry, they bring a note of authentic nostalgia and gentle charm. Versatile in use, they suit dry goods, wrapped sweets, tea, spices... Grouped together, they form a cohesive display that adds warmth and character to kitchens, cafés, and boutique interiors.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
