"These gold spoons are for caviar," Patricia Wells explains. A set of six small spoons from their Paris apartment, these are gold-toned and beautifully proportioned, with rounded oval bowls and slender handles that widen slightly at the base in a classic teardrop form. Gold — or gold-plated — spoons have long been the traditional choice for serving caviar, as the metal does not react with the roe or impart any metallic taste. They work equally well for other small indulgences: a demitasse of espresso, a single scoop of sorbet, a spoonful of something precious. Arrange them in a small glass or ceramic vessel on a sideboard, or lay them across a tray as part of a considered table setting.
