One of these dishes is photographed with roasted fresh garlic on page 185 of "Vegetable Harvest." A charming set of four handmade French terracotta gratin dishes from the convivial kitchen at Chanteduc, photographed as three yet offered as a complete four. Patricia recalls, ““I had them made especially for potato gratin. They’re about 30 years old.”
Thrown with twin ear handles and a low, generous profile, each dish is finished with a warm miel, or honey, glaze outside and a rich chestnut interior. Subtle variations in hue celebrate the hand of the artisan, while the rounded ears make them easy to carry from oven to table. Scaled for individual portions, they are perfect for gratins, roasted vegetables, fruit crumbles, or a rustic clafoutis. When not in use, stack the quartet on an open kitchen shelf beside copper and stoneware, or line them along a buffet for olives and garden herbs. Useful, well loved, and authentically Provençal, they bring intelligent simplicity and hospitality to everyday cooking.
