A rare set of four French two-light wall sconces dating from the 1940s. Handcrafted in wrought iron with gilded foliate accents, each sconce is crowned with a different bouquet of hand-painted tole flowers in soft, muted tones. Gracefully scrolling arms support acanthus-form candle cups retaining their original faux candle sleeves. Combining finely crafted wrought iron with delicately painted tole flowers, they strike a beautiful balance between sculptural elegance and romantic charm. One floral bouquet is missing a single flower, a detail that is barely noticeable once displayed. The original faux candle sleeves show expected signs of age and may easily be replaced with new sleeves for a fresher look.
Sets of four are a rare find and offer wonderful decorative possibilities, whether installed together, displayed as two matching pairs, or used individually throughout the home.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
