Four opaque blue black wine glasses from Patricia Wells’s teaching kit at her Paris apartment. Patricia recalls using this quartet in her Paris lessons for blind tastings, guiding students to trust aroma and palate once the color was concealed. Drawn from a life between Paris and Provence, where usefulness and hospitality lead design choices, they reflect her clear, confident approach to teaching and entertaining. From the personal collection of Patricia and Walter Wells, their provenance is as inviting as their purpose.
Each glass is glossy and fully opaque, the blue black tone reading almost black so the hue of wine remains hidden and the conversation can focus on structure, scent, and finish. Gently rounded bowls meet slender, well balanced stems. The surface catches light in inky reflections, giving a sleek, sculptural presence at the table. The scale feels generous in the hand without being heavy, well suited to deliberate swirling and steady nosing.
At home, bring them out for a playful blind flight with friends, or keep them on an open shelf or bar where their dark silhouettes read as modern sculpture. Practical teaching tools and quietly striking objects, they are ready for the next round of discovery.
Light wear.
