A set of four vintage wrought iron garden chairs from Chanteduc, Patricia and Walter Wells's farmhouse near Vaison-la-Romaine, where they spent decades in active use across the terraces and in the garden.
Each chair is finished in white paint and built from slender wrought iron, with gently splayed cabriole legs and a rounded perforated seat. The backrests are the real pleasure: a scrolled, heart-shaped design formed from curved iron rods, with small volutes at the top and base that give the whole thing a lightness entirely at odds with the material. To note: one backrest sits a little more upright than the other three.
As a set of four, they are immediately useful — around a stone table on a terrace, tucked into a walled garden, or arranged on a covered loggia. Indoors, a pair would work beautifully flanking a console or in a hallway, bringing a note of French garden life inside.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
