A harmonious set of six majolica pitchers, early to mid-20th century, each hand molded with lively relief decoration in a softly variegated palette. The group ranges from petite to medium in scale, with waisted and tapered bodies, scalloped or pinched spouts, and strap handles. Motifs include peaches and grapes on basketweave panels, trailing blossoms on olive and celadon grounds, and floral sprays framing pale cream reserves; interiors show washes of pink, burgundy, and buttery yellow. Glazed earthenware throughout, the surfaces display the characteristic sheen and pooling of majolica glazes. Condition is very good overall, with minor rim roughness, a few small nicks and light age-related crazing consistent with use. One pitcher has a larger chip at the rim with a stable hairline crack.
These six French majolica pitchers illustrate the naturalistic taste that flourished from the late 19th into the early 20th century, when local potteries reinterpreted the success of English majolica for French tables and kitchens. The set demonstrates the stylistic variety of regional manufacturers, with one pitcher from Vallauris dating to the mid-20th century and underscoring the enduring appeal of this tradition across regions and generations. As a decorative ensemble, the six make a vibrant statement on open kitchen shelves, a country dresser, or a dining room sideboard, where their varied heights and colors create an easy, collected rhythm. Group them down the center of a farm table, each holding herbs or a small bouquet, for a relaxed centerpiece. Individually, a single pitcher adds charm to a powder room or bedside table, while the full set anchors a cottage, farmhouse, or eclectic interior with warmth and color.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
