This set of six ladder-back chairs brings the easy warmth of southern French country craftsmanship into an interior and reflects the region’s long tradition of rush seating. Dating to the 1960s, each chair features a hardwood frame painted a soft gray and a hand-woven rush seat in a honeyed wheat tone arranged in the classic four-part pattern. The shaped back rails, serpentine front apron, and gently splayed legs create a graceful silhouette that feels relaxed yet refined. Makers across southern France have produced rush-seated chairs for generations, and their work imbues these pieces with comfort, durability, and straightforward elegance.
This set of dining chairs remains in very good condition and shows a mellow patina to the paint, light scuffs at the edges, and tight, sturdy rush weaving. The frames sit securely and maintain standard dining height with comfortable proportions suited to everyday use, which allows them to function well in a variety of settings. Their neutral gray finish and natural fiber seats pair effortlessly with wood, stone, and simple textiles, which gives them an adaptable presence in a dining room, breakfast nook, bedroom, or entry.
