A set of six tiny vintage French blue-footed glasses from Patricia and Walter Wells’s apartment in Paris. Each petite glass pairs a clear, finely blown bowl with a deep cobalt circular foot that brings a lively note of color to the table. The compact, hand-friendly shape suits a restrained pour and feels at home amid the easy elegance of life between the kitchen and terrace in Paris.
From her personal collection, Patricia explains she uses them “for digestifs or sweet wine, such as Sauternes.” Sauternes is a celebrated sweet white from Bordeaux made when noble rot, the beneficial fungus Botrytis cinerea, gently shrivels ripe grapes, concentrating sugar, flavor, and acidity. The result is an intensely flavored golden wine with notes of honey, apricot, citrus, and spice. The name may sound unappealing, yet noble rot is precisely what makes these wines so special. Perfect for small pours, these glasses also shine with a favorite liqueur or a tasting of olive oil after a cooking class when conversation lingers. Display the six together on a tray or open shelf to let the cobalt feet catch the light, ready for an impromptu toast in the garden or at the end of a convivial meal.
Note: One has some chips around the lip.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
