A charming small walnut pedestal table from the early to mid-20th century, with all the character of provincial folk craftsmanship. It has a slightly improvised, handmade quality, with visible screws beneath the top and a construction that feels a little naïve. It may have been assembled from different elements, lending it a subtly irregular, gently crooked appearance that only enhances its singular charm.
Turned from warm walnut, the central column rises from a tripod base with splayed legs, supporting a lower shelf and a distinctive top with softly rounded corners and gently notched, stepped edges that create a subtle, decorative outline. The surface has developed a rich patina over time, with a few old wormholes that bear witness to its age.
The proportions are particularly pleasing, giving the piece a natural elegance despite its simple construction. There is a slight tilt to the top and irregularity throughout, entirely in keeping with its origin, reinforcing its authenticity.
A unique piece, full of warmth and personality, perfect beside a chair or sofa.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
