Carved from solid wood with articulated limbs joined by rope, this charming folk figure depicts a rounded piglet with a softly modeled snout, small dot eyes, and gently blushed ears and cheeks. The simplified, almost abstracted body is balanced by expressive details, including black-painted hooves and hands that add contrast to the pale, buff-toned surface. The limbs are loosely jointed, allowing the figure to sit or dangle naturally, giving it a lively, animated presence. The surface retains a warm, time-softened patina, with small scuffs, rubbed edges, and minor losses consistent with age and handling.
Likely dating to the 1960s, the piece may have originally served as a folk toy or as a whimsical display figure for a charcutier, or market stall, where pig imagery was commonly used as a visual signifier. Its naïve craftsmanship and tactile appeal suggest an object made to charm and engage, whether in play or in trade.
Perched on a pantry shelf or kitchen windowsill, it brings a gentle note of whimsy and warmth to everyday spaces. It is equally at home in a child’s room, where it can sit among picture books or on a shelf as a playful, reassuring presence.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
