Small Contemporary Oil Painting of a White Hen by Karibou - 11" x 13"

This small contemporary oil painting by Karibou depicts a white hen standing in a sunlit meadow, its softly modeled body set against a field of layered greens and yellow tones, with a hazy blue-gray sky beyond. The brushwork is light and impressionistic, merely suggesting grasses, foliage and distance, while the white bird stands out clearly at the center of the composition. The red comb provides a lively point of color within the otherwise gentle palette. The canvas is signed at the lower right corner and set within a simple warm-toned wooden box frame, giving the work a clean, understated presentation.

There is a gentle, almost storybook quality to the subject, balanced by a real sense of observation. The hen feels caught in an ordinary, fleeting moment, surrounded by the softness of the landscape rather than posed as a formal animal study. This balance between an everyday subject and painterly treatment is very much in keeping with Karibou’s ability to find poetry in familiar, domestic scenes.

The painting would bring a fresh rural note to a kitchen or breakfast room, while its gentle humor and storybook quality would also make it perfect for a child’s bedroom.
