A small oak cabinet from the Louis XV period, a regional Norman work dating from the 18th century. The piece features richly carved panels and elegant curved lines characteristic of the style.
The interior, unpainted, is particularly appealing, with visible hand tool marks that attest to traditional craftsmanship and give the piece a strong sense of authenticity and character. It is fitted with two fixed-height shelves, offering practical storage.
The painted finish is later, composed of a soft, timeworn off-white with subtle grey undertones, gently distressed to reveal hints of the underlying wood and carving. The top is finished in a contrasting black, creating a pleasing visual balance and highlighting the silhouette of the piece. The cabinet closes securely, though the lock is not original and a discreet lower clip has been added to ensure proper closure.
Of pleasingly compact proportions, the cabinet feels well balanced and highly versatile, easy to place in a range of interiors as a side cabinet, hallway piece, or bedside storage. A characterful and authentic period piece, ideal for bringing texture and depth to an interior.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
