This French ceramic vase dates from the early to mid-20th century and has a form typical of Castelnaudary pottery. Its gently waisted body flares toward both the base and the distinctive undulating rim, while the simple incised decoration and sftly mottled emerald-green glaze are also characteristic of the local ceramic tradition. Light rubbing is visible around the rim and base, consistent with age and handling. The contrasting pale yellow interior glaze remains in good condition, allowing the piece to be used as a functional vase.
The flared shape and wavy rim give the vase plenty of character, while its simple decoration and deep green glaze retain the unpretentious charm of traditional country pottery. It would work beautifully with a loose arrangement of garden flowers or leafy branches, but is equally decorative displayed on its own among other southern French ceramics.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
