This impressive pair of large gilt-brass wall sconces, dating from the mid-twentieth century, was likely created for a liturgical setting and immediately captivates with its exuberant forms, where vines, leaves, and flowers unfold in rhythmic tiers. One model carries twelve lights, the other eleven with a discreet missing fitting that blends into the composition and leaves their strong decorative impact intact. The warm gilt remains very bright in some areas, likely from recent retouching, while it has mellowed attractively in others, creating depth and gentle highlights across the intricate forms.
Striking in scale and exceptionally decorative, these sconces bring a dramatic presence to a dining room, entry hall, or great room. Their vineyard and harvest imagery naturally suits spaces where people gather around the table, lending warmth, abundance, and a celebratory note to the interior. Mounted on either side of a mirror, flanking a doorway, or placed above a long buffet, they make a luminous statement that elevates the entire room.
