Alive with color and texture, this late 20th-century oil on board presents a richly worked still life featuring an oil lamp and a dark teapot arranged beside a vase of flowers, set before a cool blue window. Warm ochres and golden yellows of the lamp glow against deep charcoal and slate tones, while accents of red, coral, and green in the flowers animate the center of the composition. The blues of the window and tabletop create a calm structural counterpoint, enhancing the interplay of light and shadow throughout. Executed with a palette knife, the painting displays lush impasto and a tactile surface that lends weight and presence to each object. Signed lower right by Marc Monkowicki (1929–2010), appointed an official painter of the French Navy in 1981, the work reflects his confident handling of color and light. Minor wear at the edges is consistent with the technique and age of the piece.
Hang this piece above a kitchen console, in a breakfast nook, or on a library wall to introduce warmth and a quietly modern note to the space. Its thick, expressive strokes and tactile surface give the painting an artisanal, almost rustic character, while the saturated blues, mustard yellows, and coral accents pair beautifully with limestone, oak, and patinated metals. The intimate scale invites it to be leaned on a mantel or layered into a gallery arrangement, where it brings a welcoming glow and a sense of everyday poetry.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
