From Cliousclat in the Drôme, early 20th century, this charming glazed earthenware serving platter is generously proportioned yet lightweight in the hand. The wide well and softly everted rim are finished in a warm straw-yellow glaze with a satin surface showing fine speckling and small rim frits from age and use. The center is hand-painted with a scrolling garland of green leaves and iron-red flowerheads, forming a loose wreath-like border that frames the open ground with rustic elegance.
Cliousclat, celebrated for its pottery workshops, produced sturdy kitchen and table wares enlivened with bold glazes and decorative painted motifs. This platter reflects that tradition, combining everyday practicality with cheerful ornament, and would have been used for fruit, tarts, or cheeses while adding color to a farmhouse dresser.
This piece brings a soft, sunlit note to a farmhouse kitchen or dining room. It can be hung on the wall with other rustic pottery, set upright on a dresser, or placed on a console as a shallow centerpiece layered with linens. Its warm palette pairs easily with oak, stone, and natural textiles, bringing a Provençal note to both traditional and modern interiors.
