A striking French Saint-Clément majolica rooster-form pitcher, dating from the early 20th century. Finely modelled in high relief, the proud bird stands with its open beak forming the spout and its sweeping arched tail serving as the handle. The vibrant glossy glaze, in shades of moss and sea green, ochre, saffron, and russet, beautifully accentuates the finely detailed plumage, comb, and wattles. Marked SC for the Saint-Clément faience manufacture to the underside. Presented in very good antique condition, with fresh, bright glazes, light wear to the foot, and no visible chips or cracks.
Richly coloured and full of character, this sculptural pitcher embodies the playful naturalism for which Saint-Clément became renowned. Whether displayed on a kitchen dresser, farmhouse table, or open shelving, or used to hold fresh flowers, it brings a cheerful touch of French country charm to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
