A grand late 19th-century French carousel horse, combining a carved wooden body with a cast iron head, now presented on a later metal stand. Modeled in a spirited prancing pose, it retains its original metal bit, once used to secure the reins. Layers of timeworn polychromy in chalky white, charcoal, russet, and umber remain across the surface, revealing areas of exposed timber beneath and creating a richly weathered, almost painterly patina.
A visually striking and highly sculptural piece, it brings a strong sense of presence and narrative to an entry hall, stair landing, or library. Whether displayed on a console, long sideboard, or placed directly on the floor, its expressive form and richly weathered surface create a dramatic focal point with enduring character.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
