Striking Pair of Sculptural Gilt Metal Branch Wall Sconces, Mid-20th Century - 43¼"

A striking pair of large naturalistic gilt metal wall sconces, probably French or Italian and dating to the mid-20th century. Each sconce is sculpted as a gracefully arching branch, densely adorned with hand-formed gilt metal leaves and fitted with two candle-style light sockets nestled discreetly among the foliage. The symmetrical design allows the pair to frame a fireplace, mirror, or doorway with elegance. They retain their original candle sleeves and small pleated shades, both showing expected wear consistent with age. The gilt finish has mellowed beautifully over time, enhancing the sculptural quality of the branches while preserving their luminous appearance. 

During the 1950s and 1960s, European designers embraced a more sculptural and exuberant approach to lighting, transforming functional fixtures into decorative focal points.
