Stunning painted cast iron garden urn Louis XVI - 19¼"

Made by the Durenne foundry, this rare Louis XVI style garden planter most likely dates from the early nineteenth-century. It is difficult to date and may be earlier. The cast iron is decorated with a Louis XVI bow and ivy leaf motifs - it is painted. The shape is an homage to the first hot air balloon flight (1783, Montgolfier brothers).
