A large carved marble jardinière dating from the early 20th century, executed in two parts with a generous bowl resting on a separate pedestal base. The basin is ornamented with a bold gadrooned decoration, echoed by a carved border around the rim that adds rhythm and texture to the design. The white marble has acquired a soft weathered patina, with traces of moss and natural discoloration attesting to its long life outdoors. Condition is consistent with age and use, including visible loss and chips to the pedestal base.
Its appeal lies in the balance between sculptural presence and decorative restraint. The generous gadroons lend depth and movement to the form while preserving the clean, classical silhouette. Years of exposure have softened the marble's crisp carving, giving the piece a sense of age, permanence, and quiet elegance.
Equally suited to a garden room, orangery, covered terrace, or interior space, this jardinière can be filled with potted plants, seasonal arrangements, or simply displayed as a sculptural focal point. As the bowl is not pierced for drainage, direct outdoor planting is not recommended in regions subject to frost. Its generous scale and architectural form make it particularly effective anchoring an entrance, conservatory, or terrace with timeless elegance.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
