This beautiful pair of tall Art Nouveau majolica vases, dating to around 1900, represents the golden age of French majolica, combining sculptural modeling, vibrant glazes, and exceptional craftsmanship. Richly modeled and finished with vibrant hand-applied glazes, each vase rises from a gently flared base to a softly scalloped rim, its elegant vertical silhouette animated by flowing tulip leaves, delicate blossoms, and a pair of water birds with finely textured plumage, modeled in high relief on either side. The luminous palette of turquoise, aqua, moss green, straw yellow, and blush pink gives the pair an unmistakable presence, creating a bold yet harmonious composition that is impossible to overlook. The pair remains in excellent antique condition, with only a few tiny nibbles to isolated high points and light age-related crazing. Unmarked.
Produced at the height of the Art Nouveau movement, majolica such as this celebrated the beauty of the natural world through sculptural relief, vibrant glazes, and flowing organic forms. Drawing inspiration from wetlands and garden flora, these decorative vases transformed functional ceramics into expressive works of art, becoming prized ornaments in Belle Époque interiors. Today, finely preserved matching pairs are increasingly sought after for their sculptural presence, remarkable craftsmanship, and timeless decorative appeal.
Displayed as a pair on a mantel, console, or sideboard, these vases create an immediate sense of symmetry and grandeur, their vibrant glazes and naturalistic relief commanding attention from every angle. Equally compelling with or without flowers, they embody the exuberance of Art Nouveau while bringing color, movement, and a touch of whimsy to both classic and contemporary interiors.
